Summary

Percy Jackson is a good kid, but he can't seem to focus on his schoolwork or control his temper。 And lately, being away at boarding school is only getting worse-Percy could have sworn his pre-algebra teacher turned into a monster and tried to kill him。

I mean, since I read The Song if Achilles I became a Greek Mythology hot-brained and this book is a total jewell, I dare to say I like it better than Harry Potter。R。 Riordan, please forgive me for not reading it before。

Noch immer eine erfrischende Geschichte。 Riordan verpackt griechische Mythologie und KJL und raus kommt eine spannende Geschichte im heutigen Zeitalter。

know those pieces of media that you loved watching as a kid, but as you experience it as an older person, it dramatically changes your impression of the thing to something that is negative(Ex。 "Shark Boy & Lava Girl" was cool as a kid, but it's laughable by today's standards)?Well。。。Percy Jackson ain't that。It was BETTER upon rereading it。I noticed a lot of the cool little details I didn't notice initially that tied everything together a second time。Prepare yourself as I jerk off to how awesome this book is:First off, the series doesn't hold back。Percy Jackson is a surprisingly dark and mature series, like Infinity Train。I was very young when I read it, so safe to say that it shocked me very much。Sometimes I forget that it's written for kids which astonishes me, kind of like the shock I felt watching "The King Of Comedy" (disturbing 7-&-Up movie)。A lot of the time, it didn't feel like it was written for 12-year-old fetuses like young me。。It has genocide, war, murder, betrayal, blood, explicit deaths of adults and children alike, and other stuff。I get the impression that it's only G-rated because there aren't any swear words in it。Now, even though I keep jerking off to this series for being so "Dark and Mature", I also like that it doesn't become cheesy and edgy。It strikes a balance between being fun, dark, and simultaneously both。It never devolves into cheesiness and corniness。It's still a very fun and entertaining read。In fact, I find it a lot funnier and more entertaining than some other lighthearted stuff out there because of the darkness。 Why is that?Well, that's because Percy Jackson uses my favorite forms of comedy, which are:- Dark Humor- Dry & Brash humor- Satirical Humor- Call-back HumorPercy Jackson will not hold back。Some of the shit that comes off of Percy's mouth is just fucking pure comedy gold。Percy Jackson is the most savage fucking protagonist of all。Secondly, the world and premise of the series。I find it super interesting how Rick Riordan was able to translate these over thousand-year-old myths and reimagining them on how they would work in modern times。The world of Percy Jackson feels so lived and well-realized。I miss shit like that。I miss cohesive universes and fictional worlds, and, thankfully, the Percy Jackson books offer that。It's not just a story with an interesting premise, but a story with a very well-executed premise。Not only is it just jam-packed with a lot of stuff, but it's also jam-packed with a lot of stuff that makes sense and has a respectable amount of continuity。I don't wanna say anything else, because it's so fucking magical the more and more you understand how the world works in the Percy Jackson books。Thirdly, the characters。Percy Jackson has some of the most well-written characters ever。You know those shows and cartoons where the side characters are the standouts but the protagonist is bland and generic?Well, the Percy Jackson books don't suffer from that。Every character you encounter is very interesting and engaging, a lot of them being more than meets the and what is presented to you initially。In addition to that, Percy Jackson himself is very interesting (Thank God)。I am so glad that Percy Jackson doesn't suffer from "Bland Goody-Two-Shoes Protagonist Syndrome" (BGTSPS)。He isn't a super naive saint or complete jackass, either。He's just what he is, which is being a kid。I also like how Percy isn't always innocent and naive like the usual childrens' entertainment protagonist。He'll know if he's being bullshitted or scammed into doing something by an adult trying to manipulate him, which makes sense if you know about his backstory。However, since he's a kid, he's able to turn all this dark shit around, which is what I love about him being the protagonist。This is where the extremely dark and dry humor comes into play which I already talked about。Another thing I like about Percy Jackson is that he isn't overpowered;in fact, he loses, fails, and even gets VERY close to dying more than the usual protagonist。He can't rely on strength alone because, you know。。。 he can be crushed to a pulp, or turned into stone。He doesn't always use brute force everything and he actually has to think smart about what to do to win。However, when he DOES use brute force, it still feels earned because Percy kinda worked up to that status of awesomeness and badassery。He's a rootable, likeable, funny, and entertaining character, which is everything needed for protagonist to be a great one。I won't say anything about any of the other characters, because I hope you experience the nuance of the characters through the many paged books rather than this summary of my thoughts。Fourthly (dunno if that's a word), the presentation and the way the novel is written, AKA the storyTELLING。I hope you don't take this as an insult of a "fuck you" but I really fucking get annoyed by excessively long "poetic" descriptions。Most of the time, these extremely metaphorical and alegorical descriptions go on, and on, and on, just so that we found out it was just some description of a plant and its vase which has nothing to do with the story and its themes。It stalls and ruins the momentum the story, and I find it really prentious because comes across as "I am 14 and this is deep" and "Style over Substance" (although, "s over s" stuff are some guilty pleasures of mine)。Now other things I love like "Stalker" and "The Mirror" (movies by Andrei Tarkovsky) that rely and need poetry to convey its themes and messaging。。。 that's a whole different story。However, Percy Jackson doesn't suffer from this cursed writing trope。A lot of what is being described and written is very litteral in the context of the plot。No padding or filler, just the essential core, and when it does, at least a lot of the what these literary devices mean actually effect the plot, or mean something important。"Filler poetry that doesn't really mean that much as opposed to poetry that conveys the theme and subject matter of the story are completely different" is basically what I'm trying to say。Hope it clears things up so that it doesn't sound like I'm trashing on poetry, because, you know。。。 you write poetry。Second to last, there's the story itself。Initially, when I read it for the first time, I just it was just some fun book series with an interesting premise, and a unique unfolding of events。I suprised here and there by plottwist, but I didn't really care much about whether they were deus ex machinas or not。However, as I was currently rereading the entire series, I realized just how intricately detailed and immaculate the plot was, kind of like how I felt about Gravity Falls with a lot of its small details and clues and other cool awesome stuff。Seamingly filler chapters and dialogue that felt pointless at first overwhelmed me with chills on a later reopening the book。Plot twist hit even harder the first time。Battles felt a lot more engaging and entertaining。Keep in mind, I have only reread the first book, and the fact that all these little details I noticed payed off and eluded to something in further chapters and books blew my fucking mind。There still some shit I have to pick up on if I ever read the rest of the other 4 books, which is absolutely。Lastly, Rick Riordan made Annabeth Chase, AKA the most well-written, least annoying, and likeable tsundere of all-time, PERIOD。I will die on this opinion of a hill。Not only do I like her from the outside, I also love her from the inside。。。 sorry。。。 that would sound VERY wrong outta context。Anyways,I'm excited to rediscover my childhood masterpiece。Yeah! Fuck it!PERCY JACKSON IS A MASTERPIECE!Whattcha' gon' do 'bout it, wise girl?! (hehe reference) 。。。more

I decided to read this as I was struggling with heavier books with a lot going on in my life recently, and it served its purpose as an easy-to-get-into, fun, light read very well。 Being a kids book, it reads very differently to the adult books I have read more recently, in terms of prose, of somewhat cliché plot elements etc。, but despite being rather lacklustre (to me as an adult reader) in these elements, the book was nevertheless very gripping, even with generally knowing the plot from the mo I decided to read this as I was struggling with heavier books with a lot going on in my life recently, and it served its purpose as an easy-to-get-into, fun, light read very well。 Being a kids book, it reads very differently to the adult books I have read more recently, in terms of prose, of somewhat cliché plot elements etc。, but despite being rather lacklustre (to me as an adult reader) in these elements, the book was nevertheless very gripping, even with generally knowing the plot from the movie version, and I found it consistently difficult to put it down。 That's always a good sign, right? 。。。more

i want an orange Camp Half Blood shirt i am bowled over by how long it took me to read this title。 its been turned into a movie, a few graphic novels, and even a game i thinki always enjoy stories showcasing the greek gods, alternative realms like this one appeal to me due to the polithistic perspective。 if i had to say anything critical it would be that the author uses the term lame as a put down several times。 its inappropriate and is similar to using the term retard or gay as a put down。 mode i want an orange Camp Half Blood shirt i am bowled over by how long it took me to read this title。 its been turned into a movie, a few graphic novels, and even a game i thinki always enjoy stories showcasing the greek gods, alternative realms like this one appeal to me due to the polithistic perspective。 if i had to say anything critical it would be that the author uses the term lame as a put down several times。 its inappropriate and is similar to using the term retard or gay as a put down。 modern day authors reeeeeally need to learn better literary devices when it comes to insults to avoid regretable choices that come across as ignorant and outdated。 i literally cringe when stories use inappropriate put downs without purpose。 used casually, i have to shake my head and make effort to return to the plot and inherent value of the story。 。。。more

The Lightning Thief is a Middle Grade Urban Fantasy novel book 1 in the series。Book Cover: 5* - This cover looks SO cool。 You have a young boy standing on what looks like a statue, but of Poseidon, with a thundering backdrop of New York City as it floods wildly under him。 Seriously, I like these kinds of covers haha。Summary/Tagline: 5* - I thought the story sounded cool。 A young boy living a normalish life in a way until monsters from Greek Mythology come to life right before him, or turn into t The Lightning Thief is a Middle Grade Urban Fantasy novel book 1 in the series。Book Cover: 5* - This cover looks SO cool。 You have a young boy standing on what looks like a statue, but of Poseidon, with a thundering backdrop of New York City as it floods wildly under him。 Seriously, I like these kinds of covers haha。Summary/Tagline: 5* - I thought the story sounded cool。 A young boy living a normalish life in a way until monsters from Greek Mythology come to life right before him, or turn into them is more like it haha。 Now being accused by the head honcho himself, Zeus, the main character now must prove his innocence with only a limited amount of days, WHILE being attacked by more monsters? Alright I'm in!Characters: 4* - This book only follows the young boy you see on the cover, Percy Jackson, a troubled kid who clearly can't catch a break and is seen as a delinquent and a nuisance by a lot of adults。 I seriously felt bad for the kid and felt his annoyance and frustration too。 That being said, he did take some getting used to, only because Percy would just be randomly rude and callous, that plus his on and off again bickering between him and Annabeth was getting on my nerves。 I think some would just say that's just how kids are, and I'm calling bull on that。 That's how some kids are, not me and my brother as we got along with our friends when we were younger。 Oh right, other characters。 Throughout the story Percy has to go on a journey with two peeps, Annabeth and Grover。 To be honest, I honestly can't tell you much about them with out spoiling who they are, except that Grover is a pretty fun and kind character and Annabeth is the smart and calculating girl, and like Percy was someone I had to get used to as she would be almost constantly combative with Percy, but they were a great group to follow, and I enjoyed their banters from time to time。 There are other characters, many of which are characters from Greek Mythology like Dionysus, Poseidon, Ares, Zeus, etc。 Many I liked the take on these characters, and others not so much。 As for how I felt about them, it varied from character to character lol。World Building: 4* - Now as you can tell, this is an urban fantasy story with creatures, deities, etc。 from Greek Mythology appearing throughout the story。 I thought it was told really well and integrated amazingly into our world, and the Mist! Oh man that was a great explanation as to why us normal humans can't see the monsters etc。 Now, that being said, all the naming and terms used are supposed to be from GREEK Mythology, yet out of ALL the names in that Mythology, Hercules, the Roman counterpart to HERACLES, is being used instead。 Don't give me the whole, "oh well it's more popular" I don't care! Just because it's popular, doesn't make it right。 That plus I wasn't all for Medusa being called Poseidon's "girlfriend" in this story, buuuut because of the nature of A earlier telling of Medusa, I understand why this route was used。 In the end, this story still stuck to, Gods of Olympus suck, and you really shouldn't trust them and what they say, and I very much agree with that interpretation of the Greek gods because my goodness haha!Story: 5* - Ok so fun fact as I wasn't aware of this until some things were falling into place for me, but Imma tell you this, The Lightning Thief is a Tale of Perseus Retelling。 No the Percy name didn't tip me off, just elements from the tale did。 It isn't a beat for beat retelling as the author took liberties to make this story not only kid friendly, but fun, adventurous, and enjoyable all at the same time。 The story starts with Percy being bullied on a bus while traveling to a museum for a school field trip。 Percy becomes involved in a lot of incidents that have mostly been by accident。。。 destructive ones, but those incidents has labeled the poor kid negatively to many of the adults, to the point that one more incident would get him expelled from at yet another school, but what's interesting, as causing an accident quickly becomes Percy's least concern, when he suddenly gets attacked by a Fury disguised as one of the teachers on the trip! From there, everything just gets weird。 After defeating the Fury, original a teacher, everyone acted like the teacher he defeated didn't exist。 Later he even hears a weird conversation between his best friend Grover and his favorite teacher。 Of course like many stories involving adventure, things only get worse from there as more Monsters attack, and Percy looses someone close to him, or so he thinks。 This story was just so fun and thrilling, it was hard to put it down at times, even as I am reading it to my son lol。 I will say this, hubby and I are very much looking forward to the show adaptation on Disney+, I just hope it turns out just as good as the book。Over All: 5* - Alright then, this story totally gets a 5 stars from me。 It was fun and adventurous, the characters were enjoyable, and the world building was very much believable to me。 My husband and I enjoyed this first book and we look forward to reading book 2。 However, I should include a warning as I did notice this from many Middle Grade books released in the early 2000's had this issue, and that is that most villains and antagonists in this story have been old looking, fat, and ugly, and sometimes a combination of the 3。 I know that some readers may be put off by that, but I decided to let it slide as I've heard the author gets better as the series and the entire Half Blood Universe expands。 Now, as much as I would also include how my son felt about this story, I honestly can't because he's barely 2 years old and I'm mostly reading this series to him to help him hear words and encourage him to speak。 I think it's working because my son is trying to speak more and that's good enough for me! 。。。more
